Louie Elwart delivering the hamper A HALESOWEN schoolboy demonstrated his festive spirit and gratitude for the work of the NHS by delivering an early Christmas present to staff at Russells Hall Hospital. Louie Elwart, who attends Tenterfields Primary Academy, delivered a special Christmas hamper made up from donations from parents and staff at the school, along with a unique Christmas card. Louie, aged nine, came up with the idea because he wanted to show his thanks for all the hard work of the NHS. The school shared Louie s idea in the school newsletter, and it received a brilliant response from parents, children and staff with lots of donations coming in.
TRIBUTES have been paid to an inspirational Stourbridge woman who has died at the age of 47 - more than 20 years after being given a second chance at life. Kate Turner, nee Winning, whose brave fight to survive leukaemia in the late 1990s inspired massive fundraising efforts for what became the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital, passed away on December 1 after a re-occurrence of the deadly disease. The courageous and much-loved wife and auntie never took anything for granted after her three-year battle against acute myeloid leukaemia during which she endured gruelling chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, then a second ground-breaking transplant of stem cells after a relapse.
