MEMORIES of Halesowen Town’s famous FA Trophy victory at Barnet only served to emphasise how much Yeltz chairperson Karen Brookes is missing the thrill of live football. It is just over a year since the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central outfit stunned their National League opponents to progress into the last four for the first time in the club’s history. Within a matter of weeks, however, dreams of a Yeltz invasion of Wembley Way were put on hold amid the first national lockdown. The semi-final was postponed and later played in September – with the Yeltz beaten 2-1 by Concord Rangers – while the league season was declared null and void, denying the then-leaders the chance to complete promotion.

Staff at Brook Primary School in Wordsley asked parents and carers of children who attend the school to donate to its temporary food bank. Staff have also been generous in their donations. The school hopes to use the food bank to support families in the area, who may be feeling the pinch during this challenging time. The food bank is also open to the general community within the school’s location. So far more than 100 items have been donated and a number of families have received parcels.
From Elgar to Snow Patrol, there’s an eclectic mix of love songs being aired this Valentine’s Day to help Wyre Forest’s homeless. Kidderminster professional violinist and music teacher Anna Downes has refused to allow lockdown to scupper her Music for Sanctuary project which has so far raised more than £15,000 for homeless charities across the area in just two years. And that includes overcoming the devastating impact that Covid has had on the music industry. Anna, originally from Hagley, set up her Sanctuary scheme in January 2019 after being shocked at what she found when she and her son took some left over party food into Birmingham for the homeless.
