A father and his 10-year-old son were rescued from the roof of their bogged ute in flooded north-west Queensland after their three companions walked 50 kilometres to get help. The ute became stuck west of Mount Isa on Sunday evening and the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter reached the stranded man and boy on Monday evening, just before last light. While Mount Isa itself has only recorded 10 millimetres of rain in the past few days, Cloncurry, 120 kilometres to the east, received 74 millimetres in the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday.

A father and son have been rescued in the remote Australian outback after their car became bogged in floodwaters, forcing a 12-hour trek for help.
A 10-year-old boy and his father were among a group of travellers whose car became stuck near Queensland s Mount Isa on Sunday night, RACQ LifeFlight Rescue said in a statement.
After spending the night in their car, the boy and his father stayed behind while three of the group set off to get help walking 50 kilometres (31 miles) across remote country to reach a local police station on Monday night.

A father and his 10-year-old son have been rescued in the Australian outback after their three travelling companions walked for 12 hours to seek help.
They were driving through north-west Queensland on Sunday, when their car got stuck on flooded roads.
Trapped, the group spent the night in the car, and the next morning, three of them headed to the nearest large town, Mount Isa, about 50km (31 miles) west.
A rescue mission was launched after the group made it to the police station.
