Protesters at Dankaur railway station in Greater Noida GHAZIABAD/NOIDA: Passenger train services were mostly unaffected in NCR cities on Thursday as farmers took part in the ‘rail roko’ programme for about four hours. In Ghaziabad, several farmers sat on railway tracks at Modinagar resulting in a Haridwar-bound train to halt for about 45 minutes. In neighbouring Noida, protesters stopped the Bihar Sampark Kranti Superfast Express for around 30 minutes near Dankaur station. In Gurgaon, farmers blocked the railway tracks at Farrukhnagar, leading to Adani Logistic Park. Although the protest continued till 4 pm, passenger train services were not disrupted on the route.

In Punjab and Haryana, farmers at several places squatted on railway tracks which led to disruption in normal movement of trains on some routes.

According to an official release, only 30 mail trains were affected out of the total 12,800 trains run by Indian Railways (including goods and passenger trains). Several other trains were able to make up time, while some of the long-distance trains which were yet to reach destination were expected to make up time further.
