Not coaches, but engine needs to change: Patole

Not coaches, but ‘engine’ needs to change: Patole ByVijay ChavanVijay Chavan / Updated: Jul 10, 2021, 06:34 IST State Congress president Nana Patole (in pic), who launched a state-wide 10-day long ‘bicycle agitation’ against rising fuel prices in the city on Friday, termed the Union Cabinet reshuffle this week as mere eyewash intended to hide the failures of the government in the past seven years. In his own style, he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying instead of changing coaches, there was a desperate need to change the ‘engine’ of the government. Patole, while addressing media persons, claimed that the Cabinet shake-up clearly indicates that the PM is now feeling shaken ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, so they may resort to any face-saving trick to divert public attention. He also announced that they will continue their fuel protest till July 17.

Maharashtra Covid lockdown news live: Toll in state s tribal districts 2-4 times higher than in first wave

The second wave of Covid-19 shows a declining trend across Mumbai and Maharashtra, but spots of worry remain. Maharashtra has registered less than 25,000 for three consecutive days, but smaller districts and non-metro areas continue to drive the Covid graph of the state. Though cases in all 36 districts of Maharashtra have jumped during the second wave, 21 of them have had both cases and deaths rising. The state has surpassed last year’s case tally of 19.32 lakh to reach 36.69 lakh, but overall confirmed deaths so far this year (39,691) continue to be less than last year’s 49,521. Of the 21 districts that bucked this trend, 11 had more than 100% rise in deaths. The tribal-populated and underdeveloped districts of Maharashtra are among the hardest hit by the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Stay with TOI for all the latest updates from Maharashtra.
