There is a canoe and kayak put-in at Ypsi s Frog Island. You may not know about it because it s inaccessible. The Frog Island Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant may change that.
Bonnie Wessler is the Project Manager for the City of Ypsilanti presenting the grant proposal at this week s City Council meeting. It would provide significant alterations to Frog Island.
What we re planning to do with this grant is to take a good hard look at that north end of the park, make the parking lot accessible from the pathway, and bring a lot of visibility to that canoe and kayak put-in and, perhaps, make that acceptable and universally designed as well, so that more people can enjoy it.
Plane makes emergency landing at Willow Run airport due to mechanical issues

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A small airplane made an emergency landing early Sunday morning at Willow Run Airport.
According to authorities, the small aircraft was experiencing mechanical issues and its landing gear did not come down, causing the plane to leave the runway just after midnight.
Authorities said the two people onboard were able to exit safely and were unharmed.
The investigation into what went wrong is ongoing.

Ypsilanti man pleads guilty to embezzling more than $100K from 91-year-old man
Officials say $30K in checks were written from victim’s account, more than $140K taken through ATM transactions

LANSING, Mich. – An Ypsilanti man has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $100,000 from a 91-year-old man, according to the Michigan Attorney General’s office.
Officials said 59-year-old Calium Turnage pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement of a vulnerable adult over $100,000, which is a 20-year felony. As part of a deal, Turnage is ordered to pay $140,000 in restitution and additional charges were dropped.
“The evidence clearly demonstrates that the defendant personally benefited from the victim’s vulnerable position, and in doing so violated Michigan law,” said Attorney General Dana Nessel. “Our elder populations are particularly susceptible to financial exploitations and we in law enforcement must remain vigilant and prepared to hold bad actors accountable fo
