Taipei, May 14 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued a heat advisory for several municipalities across Taiwan on Friday, warning of daytime temperatures as high as 38 degrees Celsius in four of them.
Due to a thin cloud cover and a high pressure system, the mercury in Nantou and Pingtung counties and Tainan and Kaohsiung cities, all in the southern half of the country, will reach a high of 38 degrees Friday, the CWB said.
The bureau issued a red warning for the four municipalities, the highest in its three-level heat advisory system, which means temperatures of at least 38 degrees will prevail for three day in a row.

Taipei, May 11 (CNA) The Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) will work with police authorities to determine the authenticity of a video clip circulation online that purportedly shows a person flying a jet pack in airspace over Taichung, central Taiwan.
A jet pack is regarded as a level one aircraft according to the Civil Aviation Act, and anybody who brings in such equipment from overseas needs to obtain an import permit for the aircraft first, the CAA said in a statement.
Individuals who use a jet pack must also be qualified pilots, obtain an airworthiness certificate for their device, and get airspace authorization before flying.

Taipei, May 11 (CNA) A travel bubble arrangement between Taiwan and its Pacific diplomatic ally Palau will remain in place, even though the Taiwanese carrier that operates flights destined for Palau is combating a pilot shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy Transportation Minister Chi Wen-jong (祈文中) said Tuesday.
The Taiwan-Palau travel bubble program officially began on April 1, allowing residents of the two countries to travel largely quarantine-free, provided they follow certain protocols, such as only traveling in groups.
China Airlines (CAL), one of Taiwan s largest carriers, which operates flights under the travel bubble program, has arranged sufficient manpower to operate the travel bubble route, Chi said.

Taipei, May 8 (CNA) A heat advisory has been issued for seven cities and counties, mostly in southern Taiwan, as temperatures are forecast to rise to 36 degrees Celsius on Saturday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The CWB said Taiwan has been under the influence of a warm wind system which has kept the mercury high, and a heat wave will sweep through the island, with the south expected to feel the most obvious pinch, in particular the inland areas near the mountains.
An orange heat alert has been issued for Tainan and Kaohsiung cities in southern Taiwan, while a yellow warning has been effective in Yunlin County, Chiayi City and Chiayi County, Pingtung County also in the south, as well as in Nantou County in central Taiwan, the CWB said.
