The opposition TDP bagged two civic bodies – the Tadipatri and Mydukur municipalities. The result of elections to the Eluru Municipal Corporation was withheld in view of a stay by the Andhra Pradesh high court, which is hearing a case related to the process of updating the voters’ list. Asaduddin Owaisi’s AMIM, which contested elections for the first time in AP, won just one municipal ward in Hindupur town. YSRC s victory in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur is being seen as a big setback for TDP. N. Chandrababu Naidu s party didn t reach double digits in many towns. Although TDP won with a majority in Tadipatri and Mydukur, YSRC is likely to bag the chairperson s posts there with the help of ex-officio votes. This, in effect, means that YSRCP will control all the civic bodies in the state. The Janasena-BJP combine, too, came a cropper.
