The Daily Telegram
Twenty-one years ago, I was in the midst of penning an archival project that, unknown to me at the time, turned out to be an oft-requested book on one of Lenawee County’s most significant natural disasters.
The project continues to grow, as the 56th anniversary looms, with no waning interest in the tragedy.
It all started with a simple question Dec. 26, 1999.
I was speaking with a fellow church parishioner about a widely known local tragedy, but one seldom discussed: the 1965 Palm Sunday tornado. Even almost 35 years after the storm swept the area, devastating portions of northern Lenawee County, it was the one subject whispered about every spring, but not talked about publicly.
