For the first time since the COVID-19 vaccine was rolled out, it is nearly impossible not to be able to find one in Central New York. Whether you live in Madison, Herkimer or Oneida Counties, odds are a vaccine is readily available to you.
Just announced at the beginning of this week, eligibility for the COVID-19 shot has expanded to anyone 30-years-old or older. It was also announced by New York State officials that beginning on April 6th, 2021 individuals 16-years-old and older may get their vaccine. This is certainly a huge step in moving forward with helping eliminate the spread of the Coronavirus.
COVID-19 Daily Report for Oneida-Herkimer Counties
For the second consecutive day, no deaths were included in the daily COVID-19 updates for Oneida and Herkimer counties.
Oneida County added 30 new COVID positive cases. After a streak of several days that saw new cases total into the low- and mid-40 s, the county has seen three-straight days of fewer that 40 cases. The county s 3-day average had grown into the mid-40 s. That latest report on Wednesday has the 3-day average at 30.
And, once again, hospitalizations among county residents and active cases are holding steady. There are 459 known, active cases in Oneida County as of Wednesday - again staying in the 450-490 range for three weeks running.
Before the COVID-19 Pandemic the local hospitals would only ever suspend visitation if the flu numbers began to creep up too high. Now, for over a year it has been nearly impossible to gain admittance to a hospital to visit a loved one, regardless of their condition. Now, things are changing and it will make recovery for those hospitalized patients a little easier.
Mohawk Valley Health System announced Wednesday that per New York State Department of Health Guidelines they are going to be updating their visitation policy and loosening restrictions brought on by the Global Pandemic we have all come to know as COVID. These changes are dramatic, but are one more sign that hopefully this virus may be finally getting under control.
