UPDATE: 1 killed in Forestport crash An Old Forge resident was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday afternoon in Forestport, according to the Oneida County Sheriff s Office. Kirsten Down, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene after she was attempting to turn north onto Route 28 from Woodgate Road and collided with another vehicle, deputies said.  The other vehicle was operated by Jennifer Palermo, 43, of Old Forge, deputies said. She was headed south on Route 28 with two children in her vehicle, ages 5 and 10, officials said. Palermo and the children were transported by ambulance to the St. Elizabeth Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica for evaluation of minor injuries, deputies said.

New COVID Cases Down in Oneida County After Late March Flare Up

New COVID-19 cases in Oneida County have dipped back into the mid-20 s, following a late March flare-up that say new case totals climbing in to the mid-40 s. In the latest report out Tuesday, there were 26 new COVID positive cases, and sadly one new death. The death is Oneida County s 412th since March of last year. After going a full week without a virus-related death from March 28 through April 4, the county has reported three deaths in the last two days. The county s 3-day average for new cases is at 27. As mentioned above, the 3-day average had ticked back up into the mid-40 s in late March, causing some concern that COVID-19 was on the rise again locally.

Man charged in stabbing at New Hartford motel Observer-Dispatch A man faces a felony charge after being accused of stabbing another person at a New Hartford mote, town police said. Police responded at 1:54 p.m. Thursday to the Valley Brook Motel on Seneca Turnpike, where the victim was found and transported to the St Luke’s Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. The suspect, Dylan Cromp, 44, was located at the scene, officials said. The two had a verbal dispute, which resulted in the stabbing, police said. Cromp was charged with felony assault and felony criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
