Manifeste théâtre: le département d’art dramatique est une nécessité
Nous croyons en l’avenir du théâtre en Acadie.
Depuis quelques années, le milieu croît à une vitesse phénoménale. Les opportunités d’emploi et les offres culturelles se multiplient. Ce milieu florissant, ce sont les artistes-créateurs qui le tiennent à bout de bras, en grande majorité des ancien.ne.s du département d’art dramatique de l’Université de Moncton.
Sans eux, le Nouveau-Brunswick ne compterait pas le Théâtre l’Escaouette, le Théâtre populaire d’Acadie ou Satellite Théâtre, sans compter les petites compagnies et les collectifs qui ne cessent de voir le jour, sans compter les artistes multidisciplinaires qui à chaque projet réinventent notre façon de tisser l’écosystème acadien. The often controversial topic of amalgamation has come up at Moncton City Council.
Councillors met for a Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday to consider what feedback the City of Moncton wants to provide to the provincial government about municipal reform.
The idea of amalgamation was discussed not only for this region but also what it might look like for areas surrounding Fredericton and Saint John.
Moncton mayor Dawn Arnold says in terms of elected representation, the tri-communities actually have as many councillors as Canada’s largest city.
“Think about Toronto with 2.7 million people and they have 25 municipal councillors. So 108,000 people have one representative.”

It appears that the next Moncton City Council will feature a handful of new names and faces.
While the election results remain unofficial for the time being, results from Elections NB indicate there will be five new City Councillors for the Hub City.
Mayor-elect Dawn Arnold will spend another four years representing Moncton after defeating Erik Gingles.
The two seats for councillor-at-large will be filled by Monique LeBlanc and Marty Kingston. Leblanc previously represented Moncton East as a member of the Liberal Party and Kingston is a former play by play Announcer for the Moncton Wildcats.
