Four communities in the Northern and Interior regions of B.C. have been approved to receive funding to support flood mitigation.
The funding is more than $8.5 million and will support structural flood mitigation projects, improve the communities ability to be resilient and prepared in an emergency. The communities receiving the funding are , Dawson Creek, Williams Lake, Vernon and Sparwood.
As an example of work that will be taking place as a result of this fund, Vernon has been approved to receive $747,000 to construct a sedimentation pond. Dawson Creek is set to receive $750,000 to replace the 102nd Avenue Crossing. Williams Lake will be getting $750,000 as well for the River Valley Wastewater Treatment Plan/Jackpine Slide Erosion Protection.

Adrian Sutherland of Midnight Shine is on Journeys this evening, talking not only about his latest single, Respect the Gift, but also about his years of activism and a bit about growing up in Northern Ontario, in Attawapiskat.
Adrian has lived in his home community for most of his life, a place that was splashed across National headlines due to a long battle to establish infrastructure to provide clean drinking water.
In our interview, Adrian will talk about the current state in Attawapiskat, and what we can and should all be doing to help ensure crises and situations like these don’t continue to happen into the future.
