New courses offered in the North to help people gain new skills

CFNR Network Feb 8, 2021 2:27 PM NDP MLAs Jennifer Rice and Nathan Cullen are welcoming an opportunity for people to re-skill or get new skills for in-demand jobs. This is possible through new micro-credential programs being offered through Coast Mountain College. The course is part of B.C.’s economic recovery efforts to help people find a place in a post Covid-19 economy. Micro-credentials are short courses that help people gain specific skills. A new course is being offered at Coast Mountain College called, “Exploring Health Careers”. It is one of 24 new programs being offered at 15 of B.C.’s public post-secondary institutions supported by a total investment of $4 million.

But luckily for us, the IIHHAS has determined and adaptable organizers who reworked the show into a streaming format, with some of today’s biggest names in Indigenous Hip Hop performing throughout the 2-day, online event. Ms. Christie Lee is not only one of the artists taking the “virtual stage”, but she’s also one of the people who helped create the show. She’s here tonight to talk about its inception, some of the artists nominated for awards and how you can vote for them, and how you can take part in the event when it airs May 22nd and 23rd.

A mother is alleging racism against Kitimat General Hospital after the death of her son

CFNR Network Feb 8, 2021 12:15 PM Naomi Bracken said her son, Joshua Benson, was driven to the hospital by his supervisor after experiencing severe chest pains at work which she said he has never had before. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the supervisor was not permitted to accompany him into the hospital. Benson then phoned Naomi and a friend drove her to Kitimat where she waited at the supervisor’s home. He remained at the hospital for about 8 hours, after being given pain killers he was asked to leave stating they could find nothing and asked him to leave. He was walking up the hill to his bosses place, he died halfway there and RCMP found him by the side of the road.
