Taoiseach & Minister Humphreys announce €12m for Ulster Canal   Investment supported jointly by Shared Island Fund and Rural Regeneration Development Fund Project hailed as symbol of peace and reconciliation Further €1m allocated to allow engineering works on Phase 3 get underway Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD, and Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, have today (Wednesday, April 28th) announced €12m in funding for Phase 2 of the Ulster Canal. The historic announcement will see the restoration of the Ulster Canal between Clones and Clonfad. Some €5.57 million has been approved under the Rural Regeneration Development fund, following on from the announcement of €6 million from the Government’s Shared Island Fund.

17 ITBP personnel awarded police medals on the eve of Republic Day

On the eve of Republic Day on Monday, 17 Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel have been awarded police service medals in various categories. Two officers have been decorated with police medal for gallantry, three with the President s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 12 with police medals for Meritorious Service. Assistant Commandant Anurag Kumar Singh has been given a gallantry medal for the second time for undertaking a counter-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017. Deputy Commandant Rajesh Kumar Luthra received the medal for successfully defusing a face-off with Chinese troops at Ladakh border in July 2019. Three President s Police Medal for Distinguished Service were awarded to Deepam Seth IPS, Inspector General NW Frontier HQ, Sunil Chandra Mamgain DIG, NE Frontier HQ and Manohar Singh Rawat, 2IC(GD), 21st Battalion.

Leitrim to form part of new cross border-mountain bike trails Reporter:   ); Leitrim could form park of a network of mountain bike trails according to a presentation from the Irish Central Border Area Network (ICBAN).   The proposal was brought to Cavan County Council this month and is expected in front of Leitrim Coutny Council shortly. ICBAN works in the Central Border Region. The eight council members of the partnership are: Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Fermanagh and Omagh, and Mid Ulster. The partnership has been advocating for solutions to common cross-border problems since 1995. As a predominantly rural area, the region and its communities have been regularly overlooked for investment.
