2021-22 State Budget is expected to set aside more than 100 crore for it
In the 2021-22 Karnataka Budget, the State government plans to give a big push to the “one district, one product” policy for exploiting the potential of unorganised micro-food processing by offering credit, avenues for the marketing of products, and technical know-how.
Under this scheme, the State has identified and approved 20 districts for horticultural products, six for agricultural products, two for marine products, one for poultry, and one for bakery products. The products in each district were chosen on the basis of their availability, status of current processing, and scope of marketing.

Processed and preserved foodstuffs have been among the most remarkable catalysts for bringing about change in the food habits of a substantially large urban population. From eating merely for subsistence, people now show preference for supplementing their diet with value-added foodstuffs. Increase in consumption of processed foods is noticeable across various categories of the population and the trend of eating out has grown manifold. With these trends the market for processed food is growing significantly and it is expected that the food industry should grow rapidly and cross the two hundred thousand crore mark by the turn of the century.
Mysore/Mysuru: In continuation of
Covid-19 related activities, the CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) has conducted Phase-2 pan-CSIR study on sero-surveillance.
The study was conducted in collaboration with CSIR- Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), New Delhi.
The study aimed at covering the large population size across CSIR laboratories pan India to assess the sustained immune status of an individual and the extent of herd immunity achieved.
The outcome of the study shall help in formulating Covid-19 vaccine guidelines across the country.
This phenome India pan-CSIR sero-surveillance was conducted over a period of four days from Feb.4 in the Institute, and open to all CFTRI students, staff and their family members.
