Sheriff Paul Monroe last week fired Deputy Dallas Young, who was hired to work at the Trumbull County jail in February 1997 and became a deputy 10 years later. Sheriff’s officials stated in reports that Young violated uniform standards of conduct while responding to a Dec. 2 call of 28-year-old Michael Haehner of Ravenna, who was sleeping in an SUV at Duchess Shoppe gas station on state Route 5.

An investigation is underway after racist and derogatory statements were spray-painted on three Kirkwood schools Wednesday night. Racist and derogatory statements were spray-painted on the outside of Kirkwood High School, Nipher Middle School and North Kirkwood Middle School, according to a statement from Kirkwood School District Superintendent Dr. David Ulrich.  According to an email by Kirkwood High School principal Dr. Michael Havener, the vandalism at the high school was reported by a student around 6  p.m.
