Mesa police have identified one of the victims in a shooting that killed two and injured one on Tuesday night.
At around 10 p.m., officers responded to a call in regard to a shooting near the area of Broadway and Gilbert roads, according to police.
Upon arrival, officers found three teens
who were shot inside of an apartment. Two of them had gunshot wounds in their torsos, and the third victim had a gunshot wound in his leg, police said.
All three victims were transported to a local hospital and two were later pronounced deceased.
One of the deceased victims was identified as Michael Benitez, 18,

MILWAUKEE Marquette University will co-host the HSI Network of Wisconsin’s virtual summit, “Advancing Racial Equity in our Colleges and Community,” on Friday, March 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Keynote addresses will be delivered by Dr.
Deborah Santiago, CEO of Excelencia in Education, and Dr.
Michael Benitez, vice president for diversity and inclusion at the Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Registration is available online through March 12.
The 2021 summit is designed to address racial justice in the broader sense, centering on Black voices, experiences and perspectives. The southeastern Wisconsin community will join together for the virtual event to focus on learning, action, eliminating barriers to access, challenging the systems that continue to oppress communities of color, and finding solutions in the spirit of collaboration and solidarity.
