Big, prestigious san jose science fair with about 700 to 900 east side students taking part. With me is the science fair coordinator, heidi strahm black from the east Side Union High school district, and also increasing the brain power in our studio, our students colleen le, as well as tam nguyen, both from oak grove high school. Heidi so, in 2001, the International Science fair was going to be in san jose. It had never been in california, and it wasntscience fair wasnt really a thing in california. And so, synopsis started a foundation, synopsis outreach foundation, which supports science fair now throughout the state. But theres sort of a focus on east side and Santa Clara County, and then we actually deliver free science fair boards to at least one school in every county. Football game that meant so much more. New at 10 00 tonight, Debora Villalon is live at San Ramon Valley high school where the progress jake is making. Reporter heather, he is paralyzed from the chest town. It is just remarkable. While homecoming for the wolf pack isnt until october, this was a homecoming by itself. Jake javier was admired here on the field. Even more admired now. It is a part of his hometown crowd under friday night lights. Jake broke his neck diving into a pool the day before he was to graduate. First spinal surgery followed by the summer of intense therapy as they continue to build strength in his harm and hands. The infants mother tells deputies she heard a a bloodcurdling scream and from the baby unconscious. A neighbor says she wishes she knew what was happening. I just feel really bad that someone who is being abused whether it be bursal or physical they feel like they cant reach out. Reporter police say Matthew Zabala had a history of child abuse. He was arrested in 2008 for abuse against his older daughter. He served to several months in jail for that crime. After his release he was still able to be alone with his two children from a previous relationship. They were no formations even though even though there was a conviction. Reporter prosecutors say Matthew Zabala, if convicted, will spend the rest of his life behind bars. We will do everything we can to hold him accountable. We want a sense of justice for that baby. On the. We broke at 6 00. Police responded to a fight at the Break Heart Reservation in wakefield. When they got there, they found a teen with part of a golf Club Sticking through his upper body. Jacqui heinrich spoke to a witness who saw it all play out and has the developing details. 18yearold curtis dav of beverly for this crime. The injuries so gruesome we cant show them on television tonight. Police tell us why it all went down. Reporter the victim shielded from view by emts holding a makeshift curtain wall around the body. Reservation just before 4 30 after the victim got into an argument with two other young men he was with. He came from one car and another car was stolen.
