APS survey seeks input from families

The district will also continue to provide pickup meals for remote students at no cost. Starting Wednesday, students learning virtually can get weekly bundles of meals on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Locations can be found at APS.edu. ROYAL SHIFT: Atrisco Heritage Academy is trading in the typical homecoming and prom court titles and voting process for a more inclusive approach. The district said it’s the first APS high school to use a gender-neutral model. “Starting this year, students will be selected to the school’s Royal Courts based on merit and vote count, but not by the male/female categories,” the district wrote in a news release. “The highest number of votes will determine the winners. Winners will be recognized individually and as a group rather than be partnered with members of the opposite sex.”

Pulse crops are a no-brainer for Scotland

Scotland could profitably grow 15 times more peas, beans and lentils than it currently does – and moves are afoot to create the processing and marketing infrastructure that will allow these environmentally-friendly crops to proliferate. Pulses are healthy, cheap and nutritious, and offer a substantial benefit to the environment through their ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen and thrive without artificial fertilisers. However, Scotland does not have a well-established legumes supply chain to support and encourage more growers to escape the cereals rut many have become stuck in. To put that right, six farmers from the south and east of the country are now working with processors, wholesalers and researchers to establish a clear route to market for locally produced pulses, under the auspices of a Soil Association Scotland-led Rural Innovation Support Service group.

St Augustine restaurants: Young chef takes over at Collage

In taking over the helm of any fine-dining kitchen, Danika Meheux would be unique in the culinary industry: She is female, she is Black and she is young.  That the restaurant is Collage one of St. Augustine s most well-established, lauded dining destinations makes the feat that much more remarkable considering the male-dominated field she is in, which also tends to award top leadership positions to those with longer resumes. Meheux, though humbled by the achievement, also tends to downplay it a bit. I think some people, when they meet me, are pretty surprised that I m the face of the restaurant,  Meheux said in a recent sit-down interview with The Record.

With Learning Loss Threatening to Derail New Mexico s Educational Gains, a State-Sponsored Coaching Program Aims to Reach 30,000 Disengaged Students

) Even by the most optimistic standards, the logistics of learning in 2020 have been difficult, if not close to impossible, for a significant number of New Mexico students. Technological challenges have combined with trauma caused by COVID-19’s deadly rampage through hard-hit populations, especially the state’s Indigenous communities, to disrupt classrooms and educational plans. More than 32,000 students or one of every 10 enrolled in public education statewide have been referred to a state-sponsored coaching program, many for being disengaged, regularly missing classes, or in danger of failing one or more classes. Less than a quarter are participating, however. And more than half of those, or 5,173 students, are in need of the most help, according to the state education officials, meaning they endure significant on-going barriers and are receiving regular interventions, sometimes daily.
