Renovation at BACC behind schedule, BISD Board approves 2 year deal with BIO

By Jim Measel Jul 21, 2021 | 8:09 PM COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch Intermediate School District Superintendent Kris Jenkins told the B.I.S.D. Board of Education on Wednesday the renovation project at the Branch Area Careers Center is behind schedule due in part to snafus in getting permits from the State of Michigan. She said the architects and the state have been going back and forth on the needed permits since February 19 and they have not heard back from the state since the first of July. Jenkins says the construction manager is coming up with ways students can continue learning in their programs while the work is going on.

Coldwater November election qualifications end April 20

The Daily Reporter The mayor and two of four Coldwater city council member seats up for election this year have qualified for new terms.  The other two are collecting signatures to get on the ballot by the April 20 deadline.  According to Coldwater Clerk Sue Heath, no one else has asked for the forms to file. Mayor Tom Kramer, 69, filed his petition of 25 registered voters seeking a new two-year term.  Kramer has been mayor since 2011. He has served on the council since 1985 except for two years.  In the Second Ward, Jim Knaack, a member since 2016, filed for another term. Knaack, 51, a Lakeland Corrections administrator, first took office when he was named to replaced Gretchen Ennis. She was disqualified after her husband became a city employee.

Federal Mogul site should remain green space after city council planning meeting

The Daily Reporter COLDWATER The consensus of the Coldwater City Council and Planning Commission after a 45 minute “visioning session” Wednesday night was that the former Federal-Mogul site at 600 West Chicago should become part of the Heritage Park system.  The discussion became necessary after Coach Road Capital, LLC, of Spring Lake, proposed to build a multi-story apartment along the highway, possibly adding some single-story condos in back in the future.  Since owning the property from a tax foreclosure sale in 2005, demolishing the plant, cleaning up known environmental hazards, this has been the only proposal for use of the property. The city has invested over $500,000.
