ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Former Albuquerque police detectives claim inaction by APD leadership is allowing serial rapists to get away with their crime.
They say when they voiced their concerns and tried to improve the sex crimes unit, they were pushed out.
Teresa Romero and Sally Dyer and Mandi Abernathy are now suing the city, claiming many of the problems in the sex crimes unit began when a new sergeant was placed in charge.
According to the detectives, one of Sgt. Amanda Wild s first mandates was to stop communicating with the district attorney s office and other law enforcement partners.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Albuquerque residents can fairly declare violent crime is spiraling out of control. It’s mid-April and Albuquerque is on track to break all homicide records by the end of the year.
Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina is the first to admit his department can’t go at it alone.
“I think its imperative that we work with the community to ensure that Albuquerque can become a safe place,” Chief Medina said in a news conference earlier in the month.?
Perhaps it s time Albuquerque residents to realize government alone can t get the city out of its crime crisis. It would appear, leaders in Albuquerque s business sector have already come to that conclusion. They have pooled their money together to put toward crime solving strategies.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A former APD employee is in serious trouble after she was accused of altering her time card to get paid for hours she never worked.
Paulette Diaz was the executive assistant to APD Chief Mike Geier until Spring 2020. Only now are we learning of an internal affairs report that found while she was in the Chief s Office, investigators believe she fraudulently used former Chief of Staff John Ross s login information to alter her time card.
In a memo to Chief Harold Medina, an internal affairs investigator wrote, Electronic records prove she did this 179 times, which clearly shows this was a pattern and practice for her. Ross advised in his interviews that he never gave permission or authorization to make these changes and grant these approvals despite Ms. Diaz claiming otherwise.
