Former APD assistant faces fraud allegations

Created: April 07, 2021 10:40 PM ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A former APD employee is in serious trouble after she was accused of altering her time card to get paid for hours she never worked.  Paulette Diaz was the executive assistant to APD Chief Mike Geier until Spring 2020. Only now are we learning of an internal affairs report that found while she was in the Chief s Office, investigators believe she fraudulently used former Chief of Staff John Ross s login information to alter her time card.  In a memo to Chief Harold Medina, an internal affairs investigator wrote, Electronic records prove she did this 179 times, which clearly shows this was a pattern and practice for her. Ross advised in his interviews that he never gave permission or authorization to make these changes and grant these approvals despite Ms. Diaz claiming otherwise.

New tool gives authorities access to shooting data for investigations

Copyright © 2020 Albuquerque Journal A new tool launched by the 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office will help authorities track past shootings throughout Albuquerque in the hopes of doing more to stop them in the future. Kyle Hartsock, special agent in charge of the DA’s Crime Strategies Unit, said the dashboard is interactive and provides in-depth data on each shooting dating back to 2018. “It’s one thing to know there’s a shooting, but it’s equally important to know who got shot, who likely did the shooting and why the shooting happened in the first place,” he said. “It allows people to take those more proactive measures.”
