Columbia apartment fire determined to be accidental

The Daily Herald The fire that swept through the Columbia Meadows Apartment Complex early Tuesday morning sending three people to two different hospitals began accidentally near a living room couch inside one of the apartments, the Columbia Fire Marshall’s Office said. The determination was made by investigators with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Columbia Police Department. We have determined that the fire was accidental, said Columbia Fire and Rescue Chief Ty Cobb. We are complete with the instigation, and it has been turned over to the property owner.   The property remains gated and secured. More than a dozen of the property s residents were displaced due to the fire.

Held in recognition of Law Enforcement Memorial Week, the memorial service was prerecorded at Columbia’s Maury Hills Church, the city’s police precinct and a local park before being shared on social media Monday night. This year’s event marked the second consecutive year that the event was held remotely as a precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Grenade found in Spring Hill remains a mystery How a live hand grenade ended up at a Spring Hill construction site remains unknown. On Wednesday, April 21, an Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit from Ft. Campbell was dispatched to the city after a live grenade was found in Spring Hill. Officers with the Spring Hill Police Department were dispatched to the site located within the 2000 block of Sercy Drive after the military explosive was found by members of the community. At the scene, the device was X-rayed and found to be a live grenade before the EOD unit was safely removed by responding soldiers of the U.S. Army Garrison at Ft. Campbell.
