Spending at Florida restaurants below pre-pandemic levels, new data suggests

Zenreach/Top Data New research from market analysts at Zenreach and TOP Data shows Florida restaurants are 11% below January sales numbers. Foot traffic is down across the board, said Zenreach CEO John Kelly. Restaurants have been very hard hit, event spaces have practically gone to zero. Like the rest of the nation, Florida closed much of its economy in the spring to slow the spread of COVID-19, easing the burden on hospitals. Business for restaurants slowed to a trickle as many spots relied exclusively on delivery or curbside options. Though the state has since reopened, Kelly believed the weakened tourism industry has helped deflate Florida s restaurant spending. Places like Washington, meanwhile, have had a spending increase over January.

By Joel Malkin Dec 30, 2020 It s no surprise that Floridians are spending less at restaurants now than before the pandemic. New research from Zenreach and Top Data shows estimated sales were down 11 percent in December compared to January of this year. Zenreach CEO John Kelly says that even though the state has reopened, the financially devastated tourism industry has led to less spending at Florida s restaurants. As bad as Florida s eateries have been hit, the damage pales in comparison to Idaho, where restaurant spending is down 47 percent from January to December. That was the worst showing in the data.
