Amarillo Opera to host new production Remove Shoes Before Entering

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the original production of Amarillo Opera’s “Remove Shoes Before Entering” had to be postponed back in November, with the group not knowing at the time when members of the community would be able to see it performed.  However, the opera is making it a priority for this story to be told and for this music to be heard by the Texas Panhandle community, helping opera be reached by members of the community it may not always be accessible to.  The opera will host three performances of Remove Shoes Before Entering  at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the concert hall on the Washington Street campus of Amarillo College.

Amarillo College to host annual faculty recital via Facebook Live AGN Media Officials with Amarillo College recently announced that members of its music faculty will host its annual Faculty Recital in a virtual fashion due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. It will be streamed on the music department s Facebook page.  According to a news release, faculty from the college will be performing works from Bach and Beethoven, as well as American and Korean folk songs.  “Naturally, we wish that we could perform in front of a live audience,” Bruce Lin, the college s director of piano and faculty performances, said in the release. “But not only will our virtual presentation keep everyone safely distanced, it will feature a grand selection of music and many talented musicians that together, I am confident, will make for a truly rewarding and memorable experience.”

Man accused of illegally evicting, harassing 84-year old mother, aunt

BELLEVILLE An 84-year-old woman and her twin sister claim her son and his girlfriend harassed and illegally evicted them from his Collinsville property after they loaned him more than $83,000 for improvements and maintenance.  Phyllis Syzdek and Mary Jane Johnson filed a complaint Dec. 10 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Gary Johnson, Omni Home Builders Inc., Mary Goode and M. Goode Construction Co., Inc., alleging unjust enrichment, financial exploitation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.  According to the complaint, the plaintiffs claim they loaned $83,500 to Mary Jane Johnson s son Gary and Omni Home Builders for the construction, improvement and maintenance of a property located in Collinsville. The plaintiffs alleged that in addition to the $83,500 loan, they also paid rent to Gary Johnson to stay at the property.
