They’ve replaced the general with a colonel, the tank commander with the combat surgeon and in doing so, Ontario is also moving up the vaccination of frontline workers. The change at the top of Ontario’s vaccination task force comes as Rick Hillier, the retired general hired to establish Ontario’s vaccine distribution system left his four-month post on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Homer Tien, a member of the task force, a colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces and a former combat surgeon was selected to lead the vaccination efforts. Tien, currently the President and CEO of Ornge, the provincial air ambulance service, will help the province shift towards ensuring workers in places like warehouses and food processing plants are vaccinated quickly.
