Albuquerque police are holding a two-month operation along Montgomery Boulevard after a spike of violent incidents at apartment complexes in the area. Since Jan. 1, four people have been killed and others injured in multiple separate shooting incidents along Montgomery. The homicides were clustered at complexes near Montgomery and Carlisle, but police say the operation will target the Montgomery corridor. “Having a large police presence in an area that has recently seen violent crime spike, will without a doubt deter these incidents from occurring,” Police Chief Harold Medina said.

Authorities investigating whether Sunport bodies connected to disappearances

(Matthew Reisen/Albuquerque Journal) Authorities are looking into whether the bodies found in a vehicle at the Albuquerque International Sunport early Friday are connected to the disappearance of three people from Grants. Grants Police Department Lt. David Chavez said police are investigating whether the case at the airport is related to the missing persons case of Matthew Miller, 21, Jennifer Lannon, 39, and Jesten Mata, 40. Chavez said the identities of those found at the airport have not been established, but Grants police are working with the Albuquerque Police Department to see if “the two cases are related.”

Detectives have charged a 15-year-old boy in a January shooting that left two women dead and a man injured at a apartment complex in Northeast Albuquerque. Josef Toney is charged with two open counts of murder, and one count each armed robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse and tampering with evidence in the Jan. 27 deaths of Aerial Mallam, 21, and Jessica Lucero, 31. A warrant has been issued for Toney’s arrest.
