Thousands of bicycles sat idle on weekdays last year as the coronavirus pandemic forced many commuters to work from home. Come the weekend though and Brisbane’s bikeways were buzzing.
Brisbane Times can reveal 24,653 fewer trips were clocked overall on the city’s state government bikeways from January to June compared with the previous year.
Fewer people used Brisbane’s bikeways overall in the first half of 2020 but weekend riding became more popular.

That was a decrease from 392,056 to 367,403 at 16 sites, including at the Toowong Overpass, Gaza Road cycle path, PA Hospital cycle path, the Veloway and Centenary Freeway Bikeway.

HOWLAND A Champion man on Wednesday pleaded guilty to criminal charges linked to driving his 2006 Honda Civic into a Howland home the night of Sept. 23, 2020, crushing a man and his dog to their deaths in the basement.
Damien L. Fish, 24, of 5265 N. Park Ave. Extension, appeared with his attorney David Rouzzo before Trumbull Common Pleas Judge W. Wyatt McKay, who will sentence Fish after a background investigation.
