Five miles of U S 98 in Walton County impacted by widening project

The work is scheduled for completion in late 2023, according to the FDOT. The work now beginning to wind down on U.S. 98 in Walton County is a $42 million project that had been scheduled for completion this summer, but a more recent FDOT schedule placed the projected completion date this fall.

TownePlace Suites proposed for Scenic Gulf Drive in Walton County, Florida

The proposal for the planned TownePlace Suites hotel at 39 Scenic Gulf Drive came in front of the Walton County Technical Review Committee last week, and will be back in front of the same committee on March 17. The March 17 committee meeting is necessary in connection with a number of questions raised by the county s planning staff and other county government departments with regard to plans for the property. Among the questions raised in a staff review of the proposal from Banyan Investment Group  which operates 26 hotels in 13 states, including Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn and Courtyard by Marriott properties, among others were concerns about a lack of floodplain data, along with concerns about landscaping buffers and the inadequacy of plans originally submitted for the project.

Commissioners to consider South Walton, Florida residential, commercial projects

SANTA ROSA BEACH Walton County commissioners will consider proposals for residential developments, a hotel and a bank when they meet Thursday for their monthly session dedicated to county planning issues. The meeting is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the courthouse annex at 31 Coastal Centre Blvd. in Santa Rosa Beach. Among the major items on the agenda is the requested approval of a final order for construction of the Town Center mixed-use development. Plans for the development call for a 92-town home residential component the maximum allowed on the site along with a restaurant and a mixed-use structure with commercial spaces and 51 rooms for lodging.

Walton, Florida to consider 868-acre Gulf Power solar facility

DeFUNIAK SPRINGS Walton County commissioners could make a final decision Tuesday on whether Gulf Power will be allowed to construct an 868-acre solar power facility in the north county. The proposed solar facility is planned for a site at Harrison Road and Brown Road about 3 miles east of U.S. Highway 331 North. It is part of a joint effort by Gulf Power and Florida Power and Light to install 30 million solar panels across Florida by 2030, and is planned to generate 74.5 megawatts of electricity. A single megawatt of electricity is enough to power the average family home for a little more than a month.
