Privatisation fetish will ensure budget spending splurge fails

Privatisation fetish will ensure budget spending splurge fails We’re sorry, this service is currently unavailable. Please try again later. Haven’t we heard this before? How is this ‘you beaut’ training or retraining going to happen? More dodgy, rip-off private so-called training colleges that have a history of defrauding taxpayers of eye-watering amounts of money? We did have a wonderfully comprehensive national TAFE system with specialised permanent teachers. Then the system was constantly restructured and dismantled until it became a shadow of its former self, depending on casual and part-time teachers who work in unpredictable, unreliable employment. All in the name of privatisation.

Guest Opinion: Forgive us, children, for not fighting harder

By Megan Brock I will never forget the moment on March 13, 2020, when Gov. Tom Wolf announced the two-week closure of all Pennsylvania schools. I let out a visceral a cry of frustration at the unprecedented news.   It was a simpler time before the phrases “social distance” and “mask up” were embedded into the popular vernacular. Believing in the importance of a quality, face-to-face education was not only socially acceptable, it was unquestionable. Never could I have imagined, 11 months later, thousands of students across Pennsylvania would not have access to an in-person education.  The mission of the Pennsylvania Department of Education is, “…to ensure that every learner has access to a world-class education system that academically prepares children and adults to succeed as productive citizens.”

Lecturer, coach helps students navigate academia January 8, 2021 Megan Brock’s teaching serves to keep students on their academic course After spending just a few minutes with Megan Brock, it is evident that student equity and wellness is at the center of her teaching philosophy. “My goal as a lecturer and academic coach is to empower students to stabilize themselves when waves of life threaten their trajectory,” she said. “If you imagine students as boats on a sea, there are always going to be waves challenges that could move them off course. Our goal is to help them know what their anchor in life is, to equip them with skills needed to navigate rough waters of academia, so they’ll be in control of their own journey.”
