I will never forget the moment on March 13, 2020, when Gov. Tom Wolf announced the two-week closure of all Pennsylvania schools. I let out a visceral a cry of frustration at the unprecedented news.
It was a simpler time before the phrases “social distance” and “mask up” were embedded into the popular vernacular. Believing in the importance of a quality, face-to-face education was not only socially acceptable, it was unquestionable. Never could I have imagined, 11 months later, thousands of students across Pennsylvania would not have access to an in-person education.
The mission of the Pennsylvania Department of Education is, “…to ensure that every learner has access to a world-class education system that academically prepares children and adults to succeed as productive citizens.”
