Department of Public Safety to Honor Troopers and Civilians Wednesday

Unsplash (KNSI) – The Minnesota State Patrol is honoring some of their bravest officers and some quick-thinking civilians who were in the right place at the right time with a virtual awards banquet Wednesday afternoon. Among them is Trooper Anthony Butler, who will receive the Meritorious Service Award. Butler and officers from area law enforcement agencies responded to 911 calls about a suspicious vehicle that had committed several hit and runs on September 13th of 2018. Police found the truck in a garage in Sauk Centre after it had crashed through the door. The driver, Ramey James Olson, ran into a nearby home and hid. While Butler and other officers searched for the suspect inside, he suddenly appeared with a fully drawn crossbow. He fired at officers, hitting Stearns County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Orvis, who suffered a broken arm in the ordeal.

According to reports, Melrose Police were dispatched to the area of Sunset Road at 10:25 p.m. on Feb. 9, after multiple reports of loud bangs. Responding officers searched the area upon arrival, but could not locate anyone, or any clear indication of the source of the noise. On Feb. 10, Melrose Police received an anonymous tip from an individual indicating that they heard four gunshots in the area of Carlida Road and observed a car fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. The person providing the tip also indicated there may be a shell casing in front of the home.

64-year-old man killed in ATV crash in Massachusetts Updated Feb 12, 2021; An ATV crash in Massachusetts late Thursday claimed the life of a 64-year-old man, authorities said. Officers in Melrose were sent around 11 p.m. to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Upham Street and Wildwood Road, according to a statement from Police Chief Michael Lyle and Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office. The man who was driving the ATV was found seriously injured. He was taken to MelroseWakefield Hospital, where he died from his wounds. His name has yet to be released to public, pending notification of next of kin, the statement said.
