An area of Rte 9 in Framingham known for flooding will soon be improved

FRAMINGHAM – A section of Rte. 9 notorious for transforming into a lake during heavy rainstorms is scheduled for repairs to fix flooding problems that have persisted for decades. The state Department of Transportation has completed 25% of the design plans for a $4.4 million drainage improvement project at the interchange of Rtes. 9 and 126. That section of Rte. 9 under the Rte. 126 overpass can, at times, become nearly impassable during heavy rain. The flooding stems from insufficient drainage capacity along the road, which is controlled by the state. We get a lot of calls about this for sure,” Barry Lorion, Mass DOT District 3 highway director, told members of the 495/MetroWest Partnership’s Transportation Committee during a forum Thursday.

Collaboration between communities, access to town government improves during pandemic, municipal officials say

MetroWest Daily News Ashland, like many communities throughout the state and nation, has struggled to secure doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Town leaders have put in requests for the vaccine, but have been denied. “Obviously, we were struggling like everyone else,” said police Sgt. Ed Burman, the town’s COVID-19 task force manager.     The state Department of Public Health encouraged town leaders to create partnerships with surrounding communities that are also having difficulty getting doses of the vaccine. Hosting a regional clinic could prompt the state to send more doses faster. “They kept telling us Ashland was too small,” said Burman. “They didn’t want to send us 100 doses, 200 doses.”

Emissions compact – just Mass , Conn and R I – starts with room to grow

BOSTON Though only Massachusetts and three of the 13 state and city governments that had been part of discussions around creating a regional effort to staunch vehicle emissions along the East Coast agreed Monday to be part of the program from the get-go, Gov. Charlie Baker said it is a pretty good place to start. Twelve states and Washington, D.C. began the process more than two years ago of developing a regional cap-and-invest program to reduce carbon pollution from cars and trucks and generate the resources needed to expand clean transit options and improve public health. On Monday, the leaders of four jurisdictions Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Washington, D.C.  signed on to be the program s initial members.
