Boy, 12, critically injured in accidental shooting

The victim, who was not named, is expected to survive, Muskegon Heights police Chief Maurice Sain said.
The shooting happened around 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at the victim’s home near Waalkes Street and West Cleveland Avenue.
The victim and another child found the gun. It did not contain a clip but police said there was a bullet in the chamber. The gun belonged to the victim’s mother, the chief said.
Muskegon Heights 12-year-old boy accidentally shot, in critical condition
Muskegon Heights police are considering the shooting an accident and no charges are being filed at this time.

On Saturday morning around 11 a.m., a 12-year-old boy from Muskegon Heights was accidentally shot in the chest while he and another kid were playing with a gun.
Muskegon Heights Police Department reported that the 12-year-old boy and and another kid found the parent s gun and there was a bullet inside. The 12-year-old boy was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

NORTON SHORES, MI – Police released the name of the bicyclist killed in a crash Monday evening.
Michael Heykoop, 48, of Muskegon, died after a crash with a car at the intersection of Henry Street and West Summit Avenue around 7:35 p.m. May 3, Norton Shores Police Lt. Marc Vanderstelt said.
There is no new information to release, Vanderstelt said, and the crash is still under investigation.
Police said previously that preliminary investigation showed Heykoop was bicycling north on Henry Street when he attempted to cross Summit Avenue while he had a red light. An 18-year-old Muskegon Heights woman, driving west on Summit Avenue, hit Heykoop, who pulled out in front of her, police said.

NORTON SHORES, MI – A bicyclist died in a crash Monday evening.
A 48-year-old Muskegon man died after a crash with a car at the intersection of Henry Street and West Summit Avenue around 7:35 p.m. May 3, Norton Shores Police Lt. Marc Vanderstelt said.
The bicyclist was heading north on Henry Street and attempted to cross Summit Avenue while he had a red light, the preliminary investigation shows. An 18-year-old Muskegon Heights woman was driving west on Summit Avenue when she hit the bicyclist, who pulled out in front of her, police said.
