Credit: 13 On Your Side Author: 13 ON YOUR SIDE Staff Published: 4:24 PM EDT May 10, 2021 Updated: 4:24 PM EDT May 10, 2021 On Saturday morning around 11 a.m., a 12-year-old boy from Muskegon Heights was accidentally shot in the chest while he and another kid were playing with a gun.  Muskegon Heights Police Department reported that the 12-year-old boy and and another kid found the parent s gun and there was a bullet inside. The 12-year-old boy was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Meet Muskegon Heights’ homegrown and humble new police chief Updated Jan 27, 2021; Facebook Share MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI – In the beginning, it was his height that got Maurice Sain noticed by the Muskegon Heights chief of police. Sain was playing basketball for Muskegon Community College when he met Chief George Smith. Smith took one look at the 6-foot-5-inch Sain and said, “I need some big guys like you on my police force,” Sain remembers. The Muskegon Heights Police Department ended up sponsoring Sain’s attendance at the police academy. He’s worked for the department ever since. Fast forward more than two decades and it’s Sain who’s chief of police – and looking for recruits for the police force.

Officers responded to the 3200 block of Sanford Street at 12:16 a.m. Dec. 31, where according to a news release from the department, they spoke to multiple witnesses who told them two men were shooting in front of a residence in the area.
