5 things to know about Greenville s budget for fiscal year 2021-22

View Comments After a year ravaged by COVID-19, the city of Greenville is preparing to adopt a budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year with an eye toward recovery and renewed investment.  The $215-million budget is made up of the general fund, which draws from property taxes and business licenses; hospitality and accommodations taxes; and user fees like sewer, stormwater and parking funds.  Armed with this new budget, the city will strive to address infrastructure needs, provide excellent customer service,  further economic development and invest in public safety and first-responders, city staff and councilmembers said during budget workshops.  City Council will hold a public hearing and first reading to adopt the 2022 budget on May 24. The new fiscal year begins July 1. 

Harrisburg proposes catch your breath FY 2022 budget

Victoria Young The Harrisburg town manager recently presented the proposed 2022 fiscal year budget, characterizing it as a catch-up period for the town. At the town council meeting Monday, Town Manager Haynes Brigman presented the proposed town budget for the upcoming fiscal year and said there was a noticeable decline in the overall 2022 budget versus 2021. The FY 2021-22 budget was pitched as $73,691,446 for the General Fund, Water and Sewer Fund, Storm Water Fund, Capital Reserve Funds and Capital Project Funds. The FY 2020-21 budget was set at about $74,420,000. The town has been pulling together the proposed budget over seven meetings since the start of the year.

The water main and road improvements project began on April 29. Earlier in April the City of Glenn Heights began the process of the improvements as the long anticipated capital project was finally underway in the city’s Mesa Addition. The project is being led by the city’s contract partner Douglas Daley Construction. It will include the replacement of six-inch water lines with eight-inch lines to improve water flow and capacity and reduce the number of water line breaks within the neighborhood.

The site is a large and unique parcel called Park 188, formerly owned by Cadman. Representing LWSD in the transaction were Kidder Mathews commercial real estate brokers Jason Bloom and Todd Gauthier. The site is within and borders King County s Urban Growth Boundary, which is directly to the east. The site is adjacent to a growing residential neighborhood that supports walking to school and nature preserves, regional trails, and parks that can support school district facilities. Regional amenities and connections include Marymoor Park, Washington State Route 520, Redmond Town Center, and a future light rail station.
