Expressions of interest are now open for Cardinia Shire’s Arts and Culture Reference Group.
The group helps Council to identify community needs and priorities in relation to local arts and culture.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Brett Owen encouraged residents to apply and help contribute to the development of a strong profile for the arts in Cardinia Shire.
“Arts and Culture Reference Group community representatives play an important role in informing Council of the artistic and cultural needs of the community and contributing to Council’s arts and cultural programs and services.
“The group also provides informed local community input into the delivery of Council’s Arts and Culture Policy, Action Plan, Public Art Policy and Arts and Cultural Facilities Feasibility Study,” Cr Owen said.

Thus begins the origin story of the Irish Repertory Theatre in New York, the most renowned theater company in the U.S., devoted exclusively to staging “the works of Irish and Irish-American classic and contemporary playwrights” (according to its mission statement) and providing a hearth and a home for audiences to savor the work of dramatists from Goldsmith, Synge, Wilde, and Yeats, to Beckett, Shaw, Friel, and Behan, as well as musicals with an Irish tilt:

Mouse model closely reproduces human fatty liver disease
A team at Baylor College of Medicine and other institutions has developed a novel mouse model that reproduces many key features of human non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a little-understood condition that significantly increases the risk of inflammation, fibrosis and liver cancer and ultimately requires liver transplant. With this model, researchers have an opportunity to advance the understanding and treatment of this serious condition for which there is no effective therapy. The study appeared in JHEP Reports.
“NAFLD has been difficult to study since we had no good animal model,” said corresponding author Dr. Karl-Dimiter Bissig, who was at Baylor during the development of this project and is now at Duke University.
