Magistrate lambastes repeat drug offender

Premium Content A Gladstone Magistrate lambasted a repeat drug offender in court on Wednesday. Linda Lee Newbold, 43, pleaded guilty to four drug related offences, including drug-driving and possessing dangerous drugs. Police prosecutor Senior Constable Carl Spargo read the facts of Newbold s case to the court and Magistrate Bevan Manthey. At 4.20pm on August 14 last year, police from the Calliope Road Policing Unit intercepted a Hyundai sedan on Larson St at Miriam Vale. They identified Newbold as the driver and she submitted to a roadside drug test. The test returned a positive result for a relevant drug and she was detained for further testing.

Man decides to drive to Brisbane without number plates

Edward John Gray’s big idea was to leave his residence in Gladstone and embark on a road trip to Brisbane without number plates on his car, while unlicensed. The 46 year old faced Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning charged with one count of driving without a license (demerit point suspended). At 11pm on October 15, police from Gympie were engaged in traffic control on the Bruce Highway at Kybong. Police observed Gray’s vehicle in the line of traffic to have no plates attached.

Boozed up mum swears at cops after drunken crash

It is not a statement you would expect from a 34-year-old mother of three, but was exactly what landed Samantha Lee Macey in a Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning. Macey was charged and pleaded guilty to one count of failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis or blood for test on requirement. The court hear that at 2.15am on November 22 Gladstone police attended a single-vehicle crash on Chapman drive in Clinton. Eye-witness reports suggested Macey, who was driving with her four-year-old child and husband in the car at the time, had hit a gutter and taken her car wheel off its axis.

Mum fell asleep in car with son, 2, in back seat

Those actions landed Emily Dawn Broome, 26, in Gladstone Magistrates Court last Tuesday. There she pleaded guilty to driving while demerit point suspended and driving while under the influence. Police prosecutor Senior Constable Carl Spargo said that about 12.30pm on August 22, Broome, who was on her way to Burleigh Heads from Surfers Paradise, parked at a Caltex at Broadbeach before falling asleep in the driver s seat. The engine was still running and Broome s two-year-old son was in the back seat.
