No fewer than 700 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) were reported across Yobe State in the last two years.
The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Mohammed Gana, disclosed this on Sunday at an event to train doctors, nurses, and midwives on clinical management of rape and intimate partner in Damaturu, the state capital.
“Based on the data we have across the six Sexual Assault Referral Centres of the state, over 700 cases of GBV, primarily either rape cases or intimate partner have been reported,” said Gana who was represented at the event by Abdullahi Danchuwa, the Director of Nursing Services at the State Ministry of Health.

Police said that the suspected murderer, 40-year-old Najma, wife of Muhammad Shafiq and resident of Kamran Park, Gulshan-e-Hayyat Colony, killed her two sons identified as 10-year-old Bilal and eight-year-old Talha by strangling them.
Neighbours of the victims entered the house after hearing noise of the children.
At that time, Najma was trying to kill her six-year-old daughter Maryam, who was eventually rescued.
The suspect also injured herself with a sharp edged weapon.

LAHORE: A woman suffocated her two sons to death at Kamran Park, Shahdara area, here on Saturday. Police said that the accused, Najma (40), wife of Muhammad Shafiq, killed her two sons 10-year-old Bilal, and eight-year-old Talha by suffocating them.
People of the area entered the house after hearing noise of children. At that time, she was trying to kill her six-year-old daughter Maryam, who was saved.
She also injured herself with a sharp edged weapon.
The police concerned reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the mortuary and took the accused woman into custody. Khurram, a relative of the accused woman, told the police Najma was mentally upset.

Islamabad: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police in collaboration with experts are working on an action plan to curb beggary for once and all by taking inclusive initiatives.
The issue of beggary was discussed at length during a meeting, held here with Inspector General of Police Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman in the chair, an official source privy to the development told this agency.
During the meeting, he said the experts floated multiple proposals to root out beggary and called for making the rehabilitation centres in the federal capital fully functional to ensure the protection of children and women.
