Islamabad: With the district administration blaming a cloudburst for the flooding of some private housing societies in Islamabad’s upscale E-11 sector on Wednesday morning, the weathermen insist that faulty drainage system contributes to the downpour-induced havoc.
“I don’t blame any housing society for the damage caused to public life and property in E-11 this morning but there’s no denying the fact that if sewerage and drainage systems don’t work properly or basic construction principles are compromised, then life turns upside down for many whenever it rains heavily,” Pakistan Meteorological Department director-general Muhammad Riaz told ‘The News’.

Five including former cop injured in firing incidents

Five people, including a retired policeman, were wounded in incidents of firing in the city on Monday.
A 60-year-old man, Sharafat Ali, son of Shahjahan, was wounded in Orangi Town. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. SHO Muhammad Riaz said the injured person was a retired policeman and resident of Ittehad Town. He added that Ali was on his way to his in-laws after withdrawing cash from a private bank’s branch in Orangi Town when muggers shot and injured him for offering resistance during cash snatching.
The suspects also took his weapon with them. The SHO said police were trying to trace the suspects with the help of CCTV footage. Similarly, a young man, Raheel, 24, son of Abdur Razzak, was shot and injured in a firing incident in New Karachi within the limits of the Bilal Colony police station. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police said the youth was shot when he put up resistance during a m
