Jurupa Fire: Firefighters contain 30 acre brush fire in Riverside County By KJ Hiramoto article RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. - Firefighters stopped the forward progress of a wildfire that broke out Thursday in the northwest corner of Riverside County. Cal Fire and the Riverside County Fire Department responded to a call of a fire near Van Buren Boulevard and Jurupa Road in Jurupa Valley around 2 p.m.  Crews have contained about 40% of the fire, which covered about 30 acres. Multiple engine and hand crews from the county, Corona and Riverside fire departments, as well as Murrieta Fire & Rescue, were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through heavy vegetation. The fire jumped Van Buren from west to east, approaching transient camps and houses along Pedley Road. With the help of two Cal Fire water-dropping helicopters, crews stopped the fire s forward rate of spread about 5 p.m.

Santa Ana River bottom fire prompts evacuations near Riverside

City News Service A brush fire that erupted Monday in the Santa Ana River bottom between Jurupa Valley and Riverside expanded to 200 acres after a second blaze branched off from the main one, and the combined wildfire was threatening homes and triggering evacuations amid windy conditions. The main blaze started about 11:10 a.m. in the area of Jurupa Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard, less than a mile north of Riverside Municipal Airport, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Crews had been making steady progress encircling the fire when a separate brusher sprang up about 3:30 p.m. ahead of the larger one, near the Western Riverside County Animal Shelter.
