SMPD, PAL Host The Rick Crocker Challenge Run

Canyon News SANTA MONICA The Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) will be joining the Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL) to host the Inaugural Rick Crocker  Challenge, a 5K run/walk pairing the youth of our community with SMPD Officer on Wednesday, May 26. Lt. Rudy Flores of the SMPD noted to Canyon News that the event is in honor of fallen SMPD Officer and Marine Corps Reserve Major, Ricardo Crocker, who was killed by a rocket propelled grenade while on tour in Iraq on May 26, 2005. Prior to being redeployed to Iraq, Rick was assigned at PAL where he was a passionate advocate of programs which mentored PAL youth in their scholastic and outdoor activities.

Burglar Wanted By SMPD - Canyon News

Canyon News SANTA MONICA The Santa Monica Police Department is searching for a man who is tied to seven burglaries of businesses in the city. They are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.  On May 20, the SMPD released a public bulletin with a description of the man who is believed to have stolen from seven different stores, offices, salons, and more. He’s described as a young African American male in his 20’s, with short dreadlocks, a thin build, and a mustache. He wore a colorful backpack with a picture of Bart Simpson on it. He was seen wearing a camouflage hoodie, a black long sleeve with the brand Puma printed on it, grey pants with black stripes, and a blue bandana. 

Convicted Felon Arrested For Firearm Possession

Canyon News SANTA MONICA Lt. Rudy Flores indicated in a press release to Canyon News that on Monday, May 17, at 12:52 a.m. officers from the Santa Monica Fire Department were dispatched to the AM PM Market at 332 Pico Blvd. The call was in regards to a male who was spotted carrying a firearm in his waistband. The male was accompanied by a female. When officers arrived, they witnessed two individuals matching the  description of the involved subjects, exit the store. The individuals were safely detained outside of the establishment and officers disarmed the male, identified as Skler Deon Darby, 31, from San Bernardino. Darby had a .45 caliber handgun holstered inside his waistband.
