ADRIAN Negotiations between Adrian Public Schools Superintendent Bob Behnke and the board of education have resulted in Behnke’s contract being updated to reflect salary increases and merit pay.
Behnke’s updated contract was approved Monday to show salary increases of 2% for the 2021-22 school year.
In the summer of 2020, Behnke’s contract was extended with the district through June 30, 2023, however, he turned down a 1.5% pay raise and only accepted 24% of possible merit pay. Other employees, including teachers, did not receive raises last year, either.

SMPD officers seized over two pounds of marijuana, a 9mm handgun and a high-capacity 9mm magazine loaded with 16 rounds from a suspect with a prior conviction for 1st degree manslaughter. A second suspect was also booked on narcotics sales charges.
While on patrol, SMPD officers observed what appeared to be a hand-to-hand purchase of marijuana near Ocean Avenue and Colorado Blvd. During a traffic stop related to this narcotics violation, officers discovered a large quantity of marijuana, an unregistered firearm, and a loaded magazine in the rear of the vehicle.

SANTA MONICA, CA Santa Monica police officers seized more than 2 pounds of marijuana and a loaded, unregistered handgun and loaded magazine last week during an arrest, officials said.
Knife wielding man arrested on Pico

A man with a knife disrupted traffic for a brief period on Pico Blvd. Wednesday morning.
According to SMPD, officers responded to The Manor (1905 Pico) at about 7:55 a.m. for a report of a former resident entering the building to argue with a current resident.
The Manor is an Adult Residential Facility, licensed by the State of California, which provides room, board, care and supervision since the 1960’s for persons with mental illness, and for those with developmental disabilities.
According to a statement from SMPD, James Latham pulled a small pocket knife and brandished it at the victim before fleeing the scene. Police were called to the property and made contact with Latham who was described as uncooperative.
