The Covid vaccination drive will remain suspended in Mumbai today at the centres run by the city s civic body and the Maharashtra government due to the unavailability of a sufficient number of doses, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Wednesday.
Of the total 342 active COVID-19 vaccination centres in Mumbai, 243 are managed by the BMC and 20 by the state government.
The decision to suspend today s vaccination drive was taken due to the unavailability of a sufficient number of vaccines, the civic body said in a release.
A total of 33,24,428 beneficiaries have been administered Covid vaccine doses in Mumbai till June 1.

The Mumbai civic body on Sunday decided to keep its COVID-19 vaccination drive suspended for the third day on May 17 in view of the warning about cyclone Tauktae, municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had on Friday announced that there would be no inoculation on May 15 and 16 considering the India Meteorological Department s cyclone warning.
The vaccination programme will now be implemented on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Mr Chahal said.
According to the IMD, cyclone Tauktae has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and is very likely to reach the Gujarat coast in the evening hours of May 17 and cross it between Porbandar and Mahuva in Bhavnagar district around the early morning of May 18.

No vaccination drive in Mumbai on Saturday and Sunday.
The BMC on Friday informed that there will be no vaccination drive against coronavirus in Mumbai on Saturday and Sunday (May 15 and 16).
Taking to Twitter, BMC wrote, Please note that there will be NO VACCINATION tomorrow and day after i.e. 15th and 16th May 2021. Please watch this space for further updates for the days ahead.
Meanwhile, a day after reporting 2,116 coronavirus positive cases, Mumbai s daily case count dipped below 2,000 on Thursday, although the number of deaths remained high at 68, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
The city recorded 1,946 new cases during the day, which took its caseload to 6,84,048, while the fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 14,076, it said. This is the third time this week that Mumbai s daily infection count has remained below the 2,000-mark.

MUMBAI: Vaccination for all above 45 years began on a high note as the state and the city registered record turnouts on Thursday, giving a much-needed nudge to a drive that was losing steam.
Maharashtra recorded over 3lakh vaccinations while Mumbai breached 55,000, the highest in a single day for both. In Mumbai, over 37,000 from 45 to 59 years got vaccinated, a significant jump from the ,000-5,000 from the same age group with co-morbidities who were turning up.
Urging districts to prioritize immunisation in areas facing a surge in cases, principal health secretary Dr Pradeep Vyas said in a circular that field units must decide if they want to cover wards/villages sequentially or eligible groups in the shortest time. He asked districts to try and exhaust the recent vaccine consignment (of 26.77lakh doses) in 5-7 days by pushing daily vaccinations to 4lakh.
10 other vaccination centres have been functional since in Mumbai January 16.
The highest 829 healthcare workers were given vaccines at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital followed by 783 at Rajawadi Hospital and 679 at KEM Hospital, among other medical facilities.
The lowest number of 18 doses of
Covaxin was administered at state-run
JJ Hospital on Wednesday.
Barring JJ Hospital, at all other vaccination sites, Covishield is being administered to healthcare workers.
In the financial capital of the country, BMC said the number of vaccination booths have been increased to 77 from 65 earlier.
On the other hand, 47,470 health workers or 77 per cent of the targeted workers for the day were administered COVID-19 vaccine doses across 528 centres in Maharashtra on Wednesday. With this, a total of 1,78,371 health workers have been vaccinated so far.
