The 64 th edition of the San Francisco International Film Festival, which ran April 9-18, has awarded over US$17,000 in cash prizes this past weekend to emerging and established filmmakers, including in its documentary categories. The jury hands out a best documentary and best Bay Area documentary prize and this year’s doc feature jury included film producer and director Jameka Autry, film curator Mara Fortes, and program director at Chicken & Egg Pictures, Lucila Moctezuma. The McBaine Documentary Feature winner was Writing With Fire (pictured), from Rintu Thomas & Sushmit Ghosh (India). The filmmaker received a $3,500 cash prize. Centre Safe to Host Virtual Film Festival | State College, PA

 Lunafest, the fundraising film festival dedicated to championing women filmmakers and bringing women together in their communities, will be hosted virtually by Centre Safe during the weekend of April 16. This is the second time the film festival will be virtual due to the pandemic. While the team at Centre Safe misses holding the event in person with the community, the streaming festival also has its benefits. “Last year, I bought tickets for my nieces and my daughter who live out of town,” Anne Ard, executive director at Centre Safe, said. “I sent it to them as a gift because these films are always creative and inspiring often the one that I thought I was going to like the best is second or third on my list and my favorite is a complete surprise.”
