Caught in possession of a “small amount of cannabis, the driver was tested for drugs at the checkpoint, testing positive to both cannabis and cocaine. Local Gardaí based in Co. Donegal highlighted the issue, stating: “Gardaí from Ballyshannon Garda Station stopped the driver of an agricultural tractor on Saturday night at a checkpoint. The driver was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected cannabis herb and also tested positive for the presence of cannabis and cocaine.

Gardaí say new cross-border travel fines will help them enforce Covid-19 restrictions. From today anyone who isn t ordinarily resident in the Republic can be fined 100 euro for non-essential travel. Each adult in a car will be issued with a fine, not just the driver. Donegal Garda and Vice-President of The Garda Representative Association, Brendan O Connor, says this will allow officers in border areas to apply more equal measures:
