Get your dining groove back at 15 new South Jersey, Shore restaurants

With vaccines being distributed and the weather warming up, dining out seems like the best way to move on from the past year s funk.  It feels like it s about that time to get your groove back with food and dining, doesn t it? While some places have, unfortunately, closed down, the pandemic hasn t stopped some restaurant owners from moving forward. Dozens of new restaurants, bars or food businesses  have opened in the last few months –  and many more are on their way –  in South Jersey, including several at the Shore. What are you in the mood for? New offerings include everything from Pakistani food to fresh pasta, oysters, seafood, pizza and even bundt cakes. 

Karachi Kafe restaurant brings flavors of Pakistan to Voorhees

Bright, colorful, filled with traditional decor and delivering on at least one very popular dish, Karachi Kafe is sure to remind the Pakistani community in South Jersey of the home country and welcome others to get a “taste of Pakistan.” Anny Khan opened the restaurant in the Avian Plaza in Voorhees in December in order to share her culture with the locals and provide representation, she said. Karachi Kafe s menu features a mix of traditional and fusion dishes. Decor includes a traditional street cart that displays Pakistani items, a wall dedicated to Pakistani history, as well as some posters of Pakistani movies. Ludo – a popular board game – is set up for guests to play.

Three Kenya designers join the Ethical Fashion Initiative By Danielle Wightman-Stone 8 Feb 2021 The Ethical Fashion Initiative, a joint venture from the UN and World Trade Organisation’s International Trade Centre, has selected three Kenyan brands - Katush by Katungulu Mwendwa, Suave, and Hamaji to participate in its second accelerator programme. Each of the designers was chosen for their “commitment to sustainability” as they use reclaimed and organic fabrics to create their collections, as well as noting their country and upbringing in Kenya as heavily inspiring their work. The launch of the Ethical Fashion Initiative Kenya Fashion Accelerator aims to highlight the distinct design talent within Kenya and follows the organisation’s successful launch of their nationwide accelerator search in 2019.
