Defending the new changes imposed in Lakshadweep, the island s collector S Asker Ali on Friday, claimed that the administration wished to develop Lakshadweep as the next Maldives. Ali said that the administration aimed to develop the three islands holistically. Maintaining that the plan was for local resident s welfare, he said that development done till date in Lakshdweep was not commensurate of its potential.
The Draft Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation, 2021 (LDAR 2021), has drawn flak from all quarters for not only being autocratic but also for endangering the islands cultural heritage and delicate ecosystem in the name of development.
Social media is abuzz over the frenzy surrounding #SaveLakshadweep, as people from the Indian Lakshadweep archipelago worry about new, controversial proposals.
