Facebook is taking action to label posts about climate change to tackle misinformation, according to EcoWatch. In late February in the U.K., Facebook launched a trial that automatically placed information banners on posts about climate change to direct Facebook users to recognized organizations.
These banners, which are created by Facebook’s Climate Science Information Center, direct people to organizations such as NOAA, NASA, the UN, the World Meteorological Organization, and more.
“The Climate Science Information Center connects people on Facebook with science-based news, approachable information and actionable resources from the world’s leading climate change organizations,” Facebook said on their news page. “The center includes detailed deep dives that go beyond the basic facts, as well as ways to get involved.”

During a meeting Monday, the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors discussed offering a tax abatement for a wind farm that RPM Access LLC hopes to build in Mahaska County.
The proposed abatement would reduce the level of taxation placed on RPM Access and Supervisor Mike Vander Molen said this abatement is necessary to make the project feasible. The $290 million project will be dependent upon all landowners involved in the proposal agreeing to sell their land and is expected to bring $60 million into the county over a 30-year span.
Per Iowa Code, the Board of Supervisors must wait 30 days before an ordinance can be adopted. This topic will be revisited during the board meeting on August 18. Construction on the wind farm may begin as early as 2016 and is expected to take about seven months to complete.

Facebook rolls out climate change labels to poke misinformation
The labels on posts aim to redirect users to official figures and facts about climate change
Social media giant Facebook has launched a new content labelling system to tackle climate misinformation.
The informational labels, which will be rolled out initially to posts on climate in the UK and will soon expand to more countries, will redirect users to figures and data from official organisations.
A few months ago, the company introduced a new online hub, named Climate Science Information Centre that features facts, figures and data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and their global network of climate science partners, including the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the World Meteorological Organization, the Met Office and others.
